The Shake Up

A landmark live performance event about the Novocastrian response to disaster and change.

Tantrum Youth Arts and Branch Nebula
in partnership with Newcastle Museum

Marking the 30th anniversary of the 1989 Newcastle earthquake, Branch Nebula and Tantrum Youth Arts partnered to make a live art event at Newcastle Museum. Charting the shake ups that have shaped Newcastle so far while preparing for what the future may hold, emerging artists responded to moments of monumental change, bringing Novocastrians of all ages together to celebrate the shared resilience of the Newcastle community.

BN mentored five emerging artists to develop participatory live art works. The artists collaborated with local businesses and community organizations in the development and outcome of their projects.

The Shake Uptook over Newcastle Museum across the last two weekends of June 2019, with free performance events for the community featuring theatre, art, music, food and more.
